This was a great read. I only knew of Garvey post-scandals, so he's been more of a punchline than an All-Star.

People like Russ make college lots of fun. It seems like there was a level of healthy permissiveness during your time there.

Many Californians look upon him fondle-ly. Good luck, Steve!

Hmmm. Many still care about him and no one is angel. He was a professional athlete so lots of women were looking to have anchor babies. Although I have given up on California because the Dems destroyed it and am moving to Maine next year it would be interesting to see how what he would do if he were to win. Don't forget what these groomers are doing to small children in our public schools-see how many lawsuits have been filed against Kaiser. That is more horrifying than anything Steve Garvey has ever done.

A few sportsmen of his vintage seem to act like political office should be their semiretirement gig.

Up here in Canada, we have a former CFL star and executive who is a local member of provincial parliament. He was elected after no-showing for local candidate debates, and getting in thanks to vote-splitting between the other 3 parties and 1 indie candidate. Gets appointed as a cabinet minister. But is completely unreachable when constituents try to contact his office with their concerns about development and environmental policies.

Yup, 30 years ago, he probably would have won. But I don't think there's enough people who remember him fondly for him to win.

And cheating on his wife, multiple women pregnant at the same time, while trying to burnish that clean cut image? Yup, gotta be a Republican.
